Circumcision: Benefits, Techniques & What You Need to Know

Circumcision is the surgical procedure involving the removal of the foreskin, the skin that covers the head of the penis. While the foreskin's primary role is to protect the glans, it can sometimes cause problems. There are currently two primary techniques used for circumcision: Sleeve Technique Circumcision and Bloodless Circumcision.

 

Sleeve Technique Circumcision

This method involves surgically removing the foreskin, particularly in cases of abnormalities. The surgeon carefully excises the problematic foreskin and then stitches the area with absorbable sutures. This technique requires a high level of surgical expertise.

Advantages

  • Effective for all types of foreskin abnormalities, especially in cases with significant retraction or deformity.
  • Minimal or no pain during the procedure.
  • Lower risk of postoperative complications.

Disadvantages

  • The incision may appear uneven due to the natural curvature of the penis.
  • The procedure takes longer due to its complexity.

 

Bloodless Circumcision (Staple Circumcision)

This method uses a specialized device to remove the foreskin. The device is placed on the head of the penis, and the foreskin is cut and sutured simultaneously using small wire staples.

Advantages

  • Quick procedure time.
  • Minimal pain or discomfort.
  • Smooth and aesthetically pleasing incision.

Disadvantages

  • In cases of significant foreskin retraction or severe deformities, the procedure may take slightly longer.
  • Potential issues with the staples, such as sinking, pulling, or premature dislodging.
